I love telling stories. Right now, that for me is writing, snapping, filming, recording and creating great digital content.
What's most important is that it's suited to the user. This all boils down to understanding who your site is for, what they need, and how to get them to it as quickly as possible.
So that's what I do.
Work, work, work
I've just started a new job with Scottish Water, working on our intranet.
Previously, I was the content lead for Apprenticeships.scot and also work on My World of Work with Skills Development Scotland. I also had the role of product owner for our I can project - leading a team to create a unique user experience on My World of Work for primary five to seven pupils.
In the past, I've worked for STV and Johnston Press as a reporter, and as a researcher for an MP.
You can see my full work history and some of my thoughts on content on LinkedIn.
I also record and edit the Those Gals podcast with a buddy.
Some things I know about:
Finding my way around a CMS (I've used Drupal, Umbraco, Sharepoint, Wordpress, Squarespace and several in-house systems).
Digital project management in an agile environment - product owner with experience in scrum, Kanban and using tools including Trello, JIRA
Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects and Audition.
Training people in best practice in writing for the web.
Content audits, analytics and developing user-focussed strategy.
Working with stakeholders, external agencies, in-house developers and UX designers to create the best possible experiences for our users.
